Sources & Methodology
How Pokoin News finds stories, weighs sources and computes market figures.
Finding stories
Poko monitors coverage of every trading card game sold on Pokoin (Pokémon first, plus One Piece, Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Lorcana and more) from official channels, specialist outlets and the wider gaming press. Each game has its own section: Pokémon at /news, other games at /<game>/news, for example /one-piece/news. Articles about the same event are grouped per game, never across games. Articles about the same event are grouped into one story, so five outlets covering one reveal produce one Pokoin News article, not five. A story only becomes an article when it is relevant, well sourced and we can add something: a comparison of sources, verified facts, a timeline, or Pokoin data. Smaller items may appear only on our Telegram channel.
Source tiers
| Tier | Examples | How we word it |
|---|---|---|
| Official | The Pokémon Company, Pokémon.com, Pokémon Center | “confirmed”, “announced” |
| TCG specialist | Outlets that cover the card game daily | “according to …”, “reports” |
| Gaming press | General gaming and entertainment outlets | “reports”, and we look for their original source |
| Social / unverified | Forums, social posts, leaks | “a post claims”, never stated as fact |
Fact-check verdicts
- Confirmed
- An official source states it.
- Supported
- Consistent specialist reporting supports it, but there is no official word yet.
- Unverified
- Only rumor or a single weak report.
- Disputed
- Credible sources disagree.
- Misleading
- Based on something real but framed in a way the evidence does not support.
- False
- An official or strong specialist source shows it is wrong.
We choose the weakest verdict the evidence supports. Verdicts are not percentages.
Pokoin market data
Market sections use data from the Pokoin marketplace catalog and its CardTrader market snapshots. Each section states:
- Window: the dates the figures cover.
- Currency: PKN, Pokoin's marketplace unit.
- Measurement: what each number measures:
- Asking: the lowest price a seller lists the card for on a given day. An asking price is not a sale.
- Inferred sold: an estimate. When a seller's listing stack disappears from a complete CardTrader market snapshot, we count it as an inferred sale. It is not a receipt, because a delisting and a sale look the same. Known non-sales, such as sellers on vacation, whole shops withdrawn, or snapshot gaps, are excluded.
- Count: listings, sellers or copies observed on the marketplace.
- Observations: how many daily data points the figures rest on. Below five, we do not publish the section.
Asking and sold figures are never combined or compared as if they were the same thing. A price movement that happens at the same time as a news event is described as such. We do not claim the news caused it unless the evidence shows that.
Disclosure: Pokoin News is published by Pokoin, which operates the marketplace these figures come from.
Images
We prefer, in order: graphics and charts made by Pokoin from our own data, official press material where its use is appropriate, imagery we are permitted to use, and branded Pokoin News artwork. Card images come from the Pokoin catalog. Card artwork belongs to its rights holders. We never present AI-generated or illustrative images as photographs of real products.
